The St. Patrick's Day Dash was awesome (pretty much the best one I've ever done). It was perfect weather, crystal-clear blue skies, chilly in the shade, perfect in the sun.
Elvis, Batman, and several leprechauns ran the race along with us, as well as 15,000 people in various shades of green and every Irish decoration you can think of. The dude in front of me at the start was running in a kilt. Sweet.
Jules and I ran the entire race with no walking, which is a first for me. We ended up pretty close to our goal of 10-minute miles (we ran the 3.38-mile course in 34:22). Running through simultaneous cramps in both shoulders and both sides of my ribcage was not so fun, but the feeling of accomplishment once we were done was well worth it. This is why I love running... learning to work through the pain. (Much to my relief, the torn-MCL knee from the summer caused me no grief!)
Great race, good times had by all.
Yes, I wore light-up shamrocks. And the most obnoxious green shorts I could find.
Congrats, Stacey! And Julie! And Kevo! And everyone else! Great accomplishment. There's no way I could run 3.38 miles. 3.38 yards, maybe. lol And I KNOW I wouldn't look as cute after wards as Stacey & Julie do :)
ResponderEliminarYeah Stace... lovin the short hair. Told you that you get showered with internet compliments from guys you don't really like. Keep it up.
ResponderEliminarlook at you and the ipod armband. and the green pants. i had some green shorts once upon a time in junior high, and was teased mercilessly for them.
ResponderEliminarAny pictures from during the race? I took my camera but I didn't getting anything while running, so I'm looking for other people's on the web.
ResponderEliminarI remember running. Its kinda foggy, but I specifically recall how I was, at one point in junior high, capable of moving everything quickly and in unison, projecting my body forward (at a moderate pace) from point A to point B.
ResponderEliminarThat was long before years of the systematic destruction of my "stamina", most notably due to cigarettes, inactivity, video games, school work, coffee consumption (don't want to run too far away from a bathroom), excessive drinking, aging effects, breathing polluted air, driving (promotes laziness), sitting (why get up?), and a general sense of lethargy.
In short, I'm amazed and baffled that adults can do what I find to be impossible. Nice shamrocks, though.
KerBLAM! Nice going. Hopefully, you're not too sore today. I'd like to offer my skills as an agent. We'll travel the globe and people will pay hundreds of dollars to witness the amazing feats you can accomplish in green shorts! It will become an international event! The StaceyOlympics. How far do you think you can throw a javelin in those shorts?
ResponderEliminarAwww, Justin. We've missed you round these parts.
ResponderEliminarActually, due to this whole new concept called "working out regularly" I'm not super sore.
This is so much nicer than when Lili and I ran 7.5 miles with Wes. At that point in time both of us considered training a pesky nuisance, so we wisely declined it. (We couldn't move for about a week afterward).
And yes, the green shorts and I are open to representation.
The left thigh is still giving me random painful spasms whenever I move it. I guess having pulled a muscle a week previous to the race isn't such a good thing. :) But it was an awesome feeling of accomplishment as we sprinted under the FINISH banner.
ResponderEliminarSuch a good weekend - now back to the grindstone here. Love you girl!
